Customer Spotlight: Fire On Ice

On November 2nd – 4th, 2018, the Fire On Ice Girls’ Hockey Tournament will be welcoming over 120 girls’ hockey teams from across the US & Canada to Rochester, NY, where they will be participating in what has become the largest girls’ hockey tournament in the US.

Since its inception in 2001, Fire On Ice has become one of the most highly anticipated events in the world of girls’ hockey. Open to Divisions U10 – U19 and Skill Levels from Tier I – Tier III, the tournament has become known not just for its fierce competition, level of play, and the chance to get scouted by many of the nation’s top college recruiters, but also for all the fun and excitement of the event and all the things players can do and experience while they’re waiting for their next matchup.

Matt Peters, Tournament Director

When asked about why the tournament has been so successful over the years, Matt Peters, Tournament Director for the event, chalked it up to a number of factors, including the great selection of nearby rinks and things to do in Rochester, the advanced level of play, the experience the tournament provides them on and off the rink, and the improvements in technology that allow the parents and players to stay connected with the event all weekend long, like getting push notifications right to their phones about major things going on with the tournament, including giveaway updates and team advancements.

And this year, the tournament will be hosting a kickoff party on Thursday night at the Bill Gray’s Iceplex, complete with food and a live band for everybody to enjoy as well as the ability for players to participate in the “Bauer Experience,” where they can sample the newest hockey gear and enter to win a set of 1X sticks for their entire team! Additionally, as in years past, there will be a social media contest and giveaway running throughout the whole weekend, as well as a DI Women’s NCAA Hockey Game played right at the tournament headquarters at Bill Gray’s Iceplex on Saturday night.

With all these moving parts though, Peters says the best part of working on the tournament “is putting it all together and seeing everyone have a great time – the kickoff parties, the pro-games – just seeing it all come together and how it impacts lives. It’s great to see all the girls who have come through the tournament over the years and gone on to play DI, in the NWHL, or Internationally.”

At Pse, we are proud to be the official housing provider for this incredible event, and look forward to welcoming all the teams to this year’s event in Rochester and many more to come!
